A pro-genome editing faction (23 members) within the Germany Green party seems to be strengthening. On June 10 they published a paper (link: https://www.gruene.de/artikel/neue-zeiten-neue-antworten-gentechnikrecht-zeitgemaess-regulieren) that calls for a modern approach to genetic engineering (English translation attached). It states that gene-editing technology could have an important role to play in improving sustainability, highlighting that it offers opportunities “for a healthy planet and thus for the good of people and the environment” and that “We can no longer ignore the need for action, but must also apply our strength of a balanced and careful technology assessment in dialogue with science to new genetic engineering in agriculture,”
