More support for Genome Editing in Europe

The European Agricultural and Scientific Organizations has continued to put pressure on the European Commission to loosen regulatory requirements for Plant Breeding Innovation. This time the Agriculture & Progress Platform will organize a conference on the subject, to be held at the European Parliament on March 3rd. Italian Socialist MEP Paolo De Castro is patron of the event, which will hear from  Nick Vangheluwe of the University of Ghent, Céline Duroc of the European Maize Association (CEPM) and Eric Lainé, President of the European Beet Growers Organization (CIBE). The Italian Minister of Agriculture, Teresa Bellanova and Coldiretti (Italian farmers association representing smallholders, and traditionally very anti-GM) and research entities are articulating their emerging and strengthening support for genome editing.
